Randy Fox survey reveals married couples are the biggest shoppers

Randy Fox, one of Australia’s largest online adult toy retail stores have revealed interesting sex toy shopper statistics discovered through an anonymous survey quizzing just over 10,000 of their shoppers. The “Randy Sex Toys Survey” showed how married couples are the largest demographic of their shoppers and they are not shy to shop with their partners too.

Having sold over half a million adult pleasure products since 2009, Randy Fox gathered interesting aggregated data of their shopper’s buying habits. Of the 10,000 shoppers that they surveyed, 43.73 per cent were married individuals, stating that they shopped online together with their partner in the past too. The single and or dating demographic took up 27.06 per cent while those who are living together with their partner were accounted at 22.27 per cent. Meanwhile, shoppers who are in an open relationship made up for the remaining 6.94 per cent.

Married couples who shopped together were also more likely to spend more, their data showed. Whilst traditional retail trends in most industries usually show that individuals are happy to shop on their own or on behalf of their partners, the statistics from Randy Fox revealed interesting insights into the adult toy retail sector. Whilst couples were shopping together, they were also more likely to purchase an adult toy that they could use together. Couple’s sex toys, massage lotions and even light bondage kits were at the top of the list of items they would choose.

According to the Randy Fox Chief Operations Officer, Chris Joseph, it was fascinating to know the majority of their shoppers are either married or in serious relationships. He added, “It definitely shows that couples out there are increasingly seeking to spice things up in the bedroom with their partners, purchasing adult toys that they can use together. Even light bondage items, showing the 50 Shades phenomenon is still strong to this day. If you’re in it for the long haul, trying new things and communicating with your partner is a must. One would expect that people would be embarrassed to purchase sex toys with their partner, but our survey showed otherwise. We think it’s great to see couples are being open and honest with each other, even shopping together. We plan to survey more of our customers and reveal more interesting anonymous data when we go live with the full results of our Randy Sex Toys Survey late this year.”

Joseph also shared that the upward trend of sex toy sales started strong prior to Valentine’s Day and continued to increase as the year has gone on. “With the challenging climate in retail for traditional bricks and mortar stores, we have definitely seen increased growth online, despite the current situation worldwide. I think this is across the board for online stores who had a solid foundation and brand behind them, regardless of what they sell. The adult toy industry is the same in that regard”.

The adult toy retail sector continues to experience high growth, year on year. Some estimates place its value at over $25 Billion US per year in sales and revenue, with year on year growth close to 10 per cent in recent years. As more shoppers continue to move online for their purchases, this figure is likely to continue to increase.
