Christmas drives online growth

The National Australia Bank’s online retail sales index rose 1.6 per cent in the month, seasonally adjusted, and grew by the same amount in November after being relatively flat in September and October.

The NAB figures showed online retail spending was up 12.6 per cent compared to a year earlier and it is estimated that Australians spent $14.7 billion shopping online in 2013.

Online retail sales accounted for around 6.5 per cent of total retail spending, which was still well below that seen in other developed countries.
