J Brand sets up in Japan

Fast Retailing, owner of Uniqlo, will etablish a new subsidiary company, J Brand Japan to create and develop the J Brand business in Japan. Resource-6

Fast Retailing acquired majority control of Californian denim label, J Brand, in December 2012. It is currently headquartered in Los Angeles.

The new subsidiary will take effect from September. J Brand was founded in 2004 by Jeff Rudes, as a women’s denim brand, before expanding into men’s in 2008.

Last year it made its first foray into ready to wear clothing. Its products are sold in more than 2000 specialty boutiques in 20 countries, including David Jones in Australia.

Other brands in the Fast Retailing stable include Comptoir des Cotonniers, GU, Helmut Lang, Princesse tam.tam, Theory, and Uniqlo.
