From an urban farm, vegetarian cooking classes to a soil-free indoor garden and even a workspace for people to modify their own furniture, the new Ikea Home of Tomorrow is designed to showcase sustainable furniture and homewares, while educating customers on how to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle in the modern world. “We wish to encourage the residents of Szczecin to take responsibility for waste,” said Ikea’s Gustaw Jakubowski, who was responsible for bringing Ikea Home of Tomorrow t

Located in a 120-year-old tenement building in Szczecin, Poland, the Ikea Home of Tomorrow features the Creative Space, where carpenters and creators are on hand to help customers learn how to fix and repair old furniture, giving it new life.
Another feature is the Planning Space, where the Ikea team can chat with customers about how to create and design an environmentally friendly home.
Customers are also invited to simply come in for a coffee and kick back in a relaxation zone illuminated by the Home Sun, an installation that imitates sunlight. Another lightbulb installation lets people experience the effects of light colours on their body and surroundings.
The Ikea Home of Tomorrow will also host a series of events in the future, such as DIY workshops and talks on the circular economy.
According to Ikea, at the Home of Tomorrow, nothing goes to waste. For example, coffee grounds are composted and used in fertiliser for plants. Paper is combined with seeds and used for crops, and plastic is reused for new applications, such as plant pots.
