Harris Scarfe’s general manager of marketing, Simon Burrett, believes his company will succeed where other department stores have struggled, after announcing that its latest east-coast store in Top Ryde Sydney would stock apparel.
It’s the retailers first foray into fashion on the east-coast, complementing an established manchester and homeware offers, but comes at a time when other major department stores are consolidating their portfolios.
Burrett said the company’s Debenhams range, which will be utilised in the new store, will be a key differentiator for Harris Scarfe as it expands its fashion lines, alongside its willingness to compete on price.
Southeast Asian based parent company Pepkor Holdings, is looking to bring the UK-based brand to Australia, having already announced it will be opening a Debenhams standalone store in Melbourne this year.
