Marimekko continues Aussie expansion

MarimekkoFinnish brand, Marimekko will open its fifth Aussie store at the expanded Chadstone Shopping Centre in November.

Opening with the latest Fall /Winter 2016 collection, the Chadstone store will display a range of Marimekko’s ready-to-wear, home products as well as bags, accessories and jewellery.

The new store will also incorporate a new store concept, which revolves around creating a Marimekko “home.”

“The store takes customers into different home spaces and worlds, and gives them ideas for their everyday moments and needs. The store architecture reflects Finnish aesthetics and design traditions as well as the timeless and enduring values behind these,” said Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko, president and CEO, Marimekko.

The concept has been designed by the international Pentagram design agency, which has designed stores for clients including Margaret Howell, COS, Christian Louboutin and Alexander McQueen

The Finnish brand has been expanding its local footprint progressively, following the launch of its e-commerce store in April earlier this year.

“Marimekko’s bold and colourful design language has brought joy to the everyday lives of Australians already since the 1960s,” said Alahuhta-Kasko. “For the last few years we have been strengthening our presence in Australia through our own store network and online store, and opening a new store in Chadstone Shopping Center complements our presence in Melbourne and offers a great opportunity to reach our Australian friends even better.

“Our brand fits especially well together with the other quality brands present at Chadstone both in the areas of fashion and home decoration.”
