Endeavour Group sales soar, ready for Christmas crowd

Endeavour Group says sales across its retail and hospitality businesses have boomed this quarter as the business cycles the impact of Covid-related disruptions.

The group which owns Dan Murphy’s, BWS and 344 hotels and clubs, says sales grew 3.1 per cent to $3.02 billion for the 14 weeks to October 2.

Trading across its retail business was strong this quarter as sales climbed 6.2 per cent to $2.5 billion.

Investments in e-commerce were fruitful as strong online sales contributed nearly 8.6 per cent to total retail sales. The My Dan’s loyalty program’s active membership grew to 4.7 million, up by 200,000 since the end of last year.

Meanwhile, the company continued with its store renewal program, updating five Dan Murphy’s stores and 27 BWS stores during the quarter.

Despite lockdowns’ negative impact on its hotel business last year, sales for this quarter grew 90.8 per cent to $538 million compared to the prior year.

Sales rebounded across all key categories such as bars, food, gaming and accommodation with bars and food sales performing particularly well. The business also acquired three hotels while 14 renewals were completed.

Endeavour Group MD and CEO, Steve Donohue (pictured above), said first-quarter sales accelerated in hotels, while retail brands continued to lead the market as the company cycled the unique peaks of Covid-related lockdowns in place at the same period last year.

Donohue added the business is ready for its first “restriction-free festive season” in three years with strong function bookings in hotels and a good supply of products to meet all tastes, trends and price points.
