The Social Studio, Romance Was Born partner for one-off capsule collection

Not-for-profit The Social Studio has partnered with South Sudanese artist Atong Atem and high fashion brand Romance Was Born to create a limited capsule collection combining the work of all three.

The collection will launch at Melbourne Fashion Festival on March 20th, and will be available for sale to the public on March 22nd.

“This collection has been a joy to work on,” said Dewi Cooke, The Social Studio’s chief executive.

“We feel so privileged to work with Atong’s stunning artwork and Romance Was Born’s dreamy designs to deliver this stunning capsule collection.

“It’s also taken a huge behind-the-scenes effort from within our organisation: from our hardworking production staff led by manager Tara Wingate, to print and event design by creative director Bonnie Mooney to the cheerful dedication of other staff and volunteers, literally all of TSS has worked on bringing this collection to life.”

Atem’s artwork is based on her walks along the Merri Creek during the Melbourne lockdowns, and depicts a richly coloured but decaying natural world.

All proceeds from the collection, and a special Instagram auction of a print of Atem’s artwork, will go toward The Social Studio’s work supporting and educating refugee and migrant young people.
