US movie star Mark Wahlberg is set to open his fast food chain across Australia with 15 restaurants planned around the country.
Wahlberg and his brothers chef Paul and actor Donnie will unveil the initial Wahlburgers venue in Circular Quay, Sydney.
And according to The Daily Telegraph, the restaurants will sport a touch of Hollywood after the trio signed a mega $50m deal with the United Cinemas owner Roy Mustaca.
The Oscar-winning Mark Wahlberg told The Daily Telegraph “What we are really focusing on now is creating exclusive content just for the customers. So people will see movie trailers early and all that stuff.”
The deal will see 15 movie-themed restaurants open within or next to the United cinemas in suburbs such as Warriewood and Narellan in Sydney, Craigieburn in Melbourne, Indooroopilly in Brisbane and Rockingham in Perth.
In the US the chain has about 50 outlets, including a food truck, open across 19 states, and one venue each in Canada and Germany.
Wahlburgers launched its first site in the UK in 2019 with plans to unveil 15 outlets. However in June 2020 the business announced it would not reopen the London restaurant post-lockdown.
The chain’s launch into the Australian market will add another US brand to the hospitality scene which includes Carl’s Jr. and stablemate Cinnabon, with Dickey’s Barbecue Pit announcing in November 2020 a 50-store franchise plan for Australia and earlier in the year Seagrass Hospitality signing up to bring Five Guys to Australia and New Zealand.
Just last month The Boiling Crab appointed state area franchisees for Queensland and Victoria.
The launch of the first Wahlburgers outlet in Sydney in the next few months is expected to draw Wahlberg back to Australia. The A-lister is also invested in the Aussie gym sensation F45.
