Inside Retail presents the Australian Retail Index. The index gives a quick overview of retail statistics in four key categories; fashion and accessories, furniture and homewares, sporting and recreational, and other. Key retail statistics are shown weekly, with yearly comparisons available. Retailers across the country experienced a difficult week, with sales down across all sectors. The traditionally volatile Fashion and Accessories sector was hardest hit with a 11.89 per cent drop in sales co
ompared to the previous week, which recorded a positive of almost nine per cent.
This continues the rollercoaster ride for this sector over the last month.
All other sectors recorded a worse result last week, compared to the same week in 2013.
Overall Sales were down by 7.46 per cent which retailers will be hoping is a blip on the radar rather than a cause for long term concern.
When the results are extended over the last four weeks, the Overall Sales sector is still trending upwards, which should give some comfort to retailers.
