Harbourside Shopping Centre brings the beach to the city

unnamedHarbourside Shopping Centre and Cockle Bay Wharf will transform the Harbourside Amphitheatre and Promenade into a sand beach with the launch of Harbour Sands which will run until January 22.

About 150 tonnes of real sand, live music, sunset DJs, a four-tonne sand sculpture and human sized board games will take over Darling Harbour to offer a beach escape for locals and visitors.

A giant four-tonne, seven sqm sand sculpture will also be built in live time by sand artists, which visitors can view in action January 3-24 at Cockle Bay Wharf.

An AstroTurf Beach Park will also be erected for the first time, complete with life-sized Jenga, Connect 4, noughts and crosses, bowling ring toss, outdoor chess and snakes and ladders.

Nicole Addinall, Harbourside Shopping Centre marketing manager, and Cockle Bay Wharf retail manager, Ernie Garofano stated they were thrilled to be partnering for the launch of Harbour Sands.

“This year’s pop up beach will be bigger and better than ever with lots of new activities on offer for all ages,” Addinall said. “We look forward to welcoming locals and tourists to the foreshores of Darling Harbour this summer.”
