With e-commerce ever-changing and growing, there is no denying retail now lives mostly online. Constantly following and driving revisions and advancements in the e-commerce market, Martin Newman and Retail Global are all about driving change for the better.

Industry leader and e-commerce genius, Martin Newman makes waves in the retail sector and Retail Global appraises his success highly. Ten years after his last trip down under, Newman calls Australia a “home-from-home”, as he “loves the people, loves the lifestyle.” Without any particular reason to come back until now, Retail Global is so thrilled that he is making the journey for Retail Fest 2022 for his 23rd trip to Australia.

Leaders in the e-commerce sector, Newman and Retail Global have a lot in common when it comes to retail. Both believe the future of e-commerce lies within sustainability, inclusivity and diversity, with a strong focus on creating a customer-centric design. Newman is “trying to be a force for positive change” and Retail Global is 100 per cent on board with his ideas.

Customer centricity

“The danger for any customer-facing business is that in the age of e-commerce, you’re far less likely to get a second chance as the customer has thousands of options at the click of a mouse to give their business to someone else who demonstrates that they value their customers.” – Newman

People are at the forefront of every business and are the key to driving change in any industry. Creating a people-first business design ensures your brand is flourishing from the inside out.

Delving deep into the customer-centric strategy in his book The Power of Customer Experience (2021), Newman believes we “must focus on building customer lifetime value as that is the recipe for sustainable success over the long term”. Turning your customers into fans is the ideal way to ensure longevity for your brand and your business. Give your customers content that they want and “turn up where your customers want you to be.”

Sustainability

Gone are the days of purchasing everything new. The shift for consumers is moving towards preloved, vintage, rented, upcycled, recycled and reused for a range of reasons. Driven by the need to reduce global warming and our carbon footprint, customers and consumers are choosing better options for the planet. Consumers also crave uniqueness and preloved ensures this is possible in almost any product.

On-demand services

Due to the pandemic, the rise in on-demand services increased. The need for goods to be brought to your door was prevalent as most people couldn’t or didn’t want to leave their homes. These services are here to stay and are predicted by both Retail Global and Newman to only grow with time.
