David Jones, Domayne, and  Dan Murphy’s were the big winners at the annual Australasian Catalogue Association (ACA) awards, held last Friday at the Crowd Palladium, Melbourne.

The ceremony, which recognises expertise and excellence in catalogue and marketing and affectionately referred to in the industry as the ‘Catalogies’, received more than 700 entries across 43 award categories including Catalogue Retailer of the Year (up to 1 .5 million); Retailer of the Year (up to 3.5 million); and Retailer of the Year (over 3.5 million).

Finalists for Retailer of the Year included Chemmart, Myer, Nutrimetics, Harvey Norman, Telstra, The Good Guys, Chemist Warehouse, Kmart and Woolworths Supermarkets,  with David Jones, taking out the top retail award for the 1.5 million category; while furniture store, Domayne; and liquor retailer, Dan Murphy’; came out on top for their categories respectively.

Kellie Northwood, CEO, ACA, said technology is reconfiguring modes of advertising in the cataloguing world, an enterprise which Australians rank as the number one most useful media for groceries, alcohol, fashionm and cosmetics

“We noticed a shift to localised photography and styling this year, in the past there was a trend of stock product photography coming in from overseas, however this year the creative is more stylised and focused on the Australian market. Content has also improved as big brands are investing in rich content to build brand stories and messaging as well as implementing digital technologies such as augmented reality to add further content layers,” Northwood said.

“These awards are a true celebration of our industry. With Australians ranking catalogues number one as the media most useful for groceries, alcoholic beverages, fashion and cosmetics as well as having an audience reach higher than any other media channel at 19.7 million and readership at 77 per cent of Australians, the catalogue is very much back in vogue.”
