Sephora, the world’s largest beauty retailer, is reportedly set to open standalone stores in Australia next year.
According to The Australian Financial Review, the cosmetics giant had been considering teaming up with a local retailer to tackle the Australian market and had held talks with department stores David Jones and Myer, but has since decided to go it alone following its recent success with standalone stores in Asia.
Sephora, the fastest-growing brand in the LVMH luxury goods group, plans to open its first store in Sydney in the first half of 2015, followed by more stores in other capital cities.
It is reportedly looking for sites in high profile locations such as George St and Pitt St in Sydney, and is believed to be in talks with Westfield.
Founded in Paris in 1970, Sephora was acquired by LVMH in 1997 and has grown rapidly, with more than 1400 stores in 30 countries.
