Retailer eyes Mexican craze

Lenard'sChicken retailer, Lenard’s, is hoping to capitalise on the Mexican craze with a new line of poultry products.

The chain’s Mexican-inspired Cantina range features ready to make meals for fans of burritos and quesadillas.

The range is off the back of an increasingly saturated Mexican food market in Australia.

Since 2010, the trend has largely been led by QSR retailers, such as Guzman y Gomez, Mad Mex, and Salsa’s.

The trend has also hit the grocery space, with both Coles and Woolworths debuting several home brand Mexican products.

Lenard’s founder, Lenard Poulter, says the Mexican range responds to the Australian consumers’ ravacious demand for ready to make meals and products.

“Too often we hear that preparing dinner is a strain on time poor families, and that fast food is the preferred alternative,” he says.

“We’re working to shift this attitude by giving customers easy to create and delicious home cooking options that don’t require much effort.”

“The Mexican Cantina Range plays exceptionally well to the street food trend that Australians are loving at the moment.”

Lenard’s opened its first store in Queensland in 1987 and today has 140 stores nationally.

It sells more than 150 ready to cook meals, such as Greek-inspired koftas and pinwheel chicken breasts.
