Pizza price wars

Join Pizza Hut's Pizza RevolutionTwo Australian pizza chains are facing off in a marketing war over take away pizza prices.

Last week, Australia’s largest pizza chain, Domino’s announced that it is doing away with its ‘Cheaper Tuesday’ and ‘Cheaper Two Days’ campaigns, which priced large Value menu pizzas at $4.95 for pick up, instead, extending to the deal to everyday.

Rival chain, Pizza Hut responded just three days later, revealing that large Classic menu pizzas will also be $4.95 from July 1, with its most expensive pizza range capped at $8.50.

Pizza Hut upped the ante on the price roll backs, pointing out that it will also not charge for extra chicken, as some of its rivals do.

“We have recently upgraded the quality of some of our major ingredients, such as a new, thicker ham sourced from leaner pork cuts, and we’ve found an amazing wood-smoked bacon made from premium pork belly.

“Quality is at the core of our pizza, and with our new pricing, pizza lovers can get the best of both worlds – great tasting pizzas at a great price,” Houston said.

Announcing its pricing restructure first, Domino’s CEO, Don Meij said the Cheaper Two Days campaign extension to every day was a QSR first.

“Pizza is a social food that brings people together, so it’s important that great value is offered to our customers during peak pizza eating times such as Friday and Saturday nights,” said Meij.

“Customers should expect to see the same top quality ingredients they have come to expect from Domino’s. Quality will not be compromised at any stage during this promotion and this is still our absolute priority.”
