Car ploughs into Sydney cafe

 

police, police tape, police lineA woman has told how she “dived for her life” as a car ploughed into a Sydney cafe, injuring several people who were sitting at tables outside.

Emergency crews were called to the Wild Basket cafe on Grosvenor Road, Neutral Bay, on Sydney’s north shore, after the accident which happened at 9am on Wednesday.

One woman who was in the cafe told Macquarie Radio she “just dived for her life” and screamed to other patrons to get out of the way.

Paramedics assessed about seven patrons, who were sitting at tables outside the cafe, police said.

“Thankfully none of them have sustained life threatening injuries,” an ambulance spokeswoman said.

Four people, including a woman with a suspected fractured leg, have been taken to Royal North Shore hospital.

Witnesses reported that a silver Lexus 4WD reversed at speed into the cafe.

The driver of the 4WD, a man aged in his 50s, has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital to undergo mandatory blood and urine testing, police said.
