Supermarket giant Woolworths has opened a new online Customer Fulfilment Centre in Lidcombe, NSW.
At 15,000sqm the facility is now the grocery company’s largest online hub in the country and will create 900 jobs for personal shoppers in the area. Woolworths said in a statement that its online sales lifted by 100 per cent year on year from July to September and currently account for 8 per cent of its total sales.
“We’re seeing more and more of our customers turn to the ease and convenience of online grocery delivery in western Sydney,” said Woolworths director of e-commerce, Annette Karantoni.
“To keep pace with demand, we’re investing in new online infrastructure to offer our customers more delivery windows and an even more reliable service. This is particularly important as we head into Christmas, when customers are busy and looking for ways to reclaim time with their loved ones.”
Property group Mainbrace Constructions completed the Lidcombe construction, which features wider aisles and can carry more stock due to its greater shelf space compared to a typical supermarket. Woolies said its personal shoppers will be able to handpick orders from 20,000-SKU product range more efficiently and faster.
