Students ply VM trade

Sportsgirl, window, RMIT, visual merchandising, VMThe window displays of two South Yarra retailers in Melbourne have been brought to life by RMIT University visual merchandising students in two industry partnership projects.

The teams have come up with a Wonderland fantasy showcasing Sportsgirl’s September accessories and apparel range at its Chapel St store, and created three window displays at Country Road’s flagship Toorak Rd store.

The partnership between Country Road and RMIT’s Diploma of Visual Merchandising is now in its sixth year. The industry project gives students the opportunity to conceptualise, design and install three of their own window displays at South Yarra.

Sophie Holt, MD of Country Road, said the company always loves working with RMIT students.

“Every year their ideas are new and fresh, pushing the boundaries of visual merchandising while still working to a real life brief. It’s great to support a new group of talented young designers.”

Rowie Kelly, Sportsgirl’s visual merchandising manager, said Sportsgirl’s partnership with RMIT is part of an ongoing commitment to nurturing and supporting Australian talent.

“The students have proven to be professional and innovative and well prepared to enter the workforce. It has been a pleasure to work with them.”

The Country Road windows are able to be seen until September 19, while the Sportsgirl displays will be visible until October 3.
