In the third interview of the Retail Insights podcast series, we talk to Peta Granger, director of cosmetics retailer – Lush. Peta describes the role of ethics in all aspects of the business as well as the “no advertising” approach that Lush uses. The operative approach of Lush is often described as disruptive and ethical. Peta argues that Lush’s approach should be the mainstream and the concept of “business decisions” is often used as an excuse for unethical practices.
Peta describes the challenge of managing growth and how it effects all aspects of the supply chain. Importantly Lush empowers the staff by including them in all aspects of production as well as giving managers complete autonomy with regards to operations. Incentives via profit share has given managers a real sense of ownership and therefore motivation to drive the continued growth of the business. She loves how social media can give a real sense of customer sentiment.
