Online food delivery platform, Delivery Hero, has acquired PedidosYa, the market leader for online food ordering in Latin America.
Established in 2009, PedidosYa operates in nine countries and its network includes 12,000 partner restaurants covering more than 300 cities.
Delivery Hero and the founders of PedidosYa are now the only shareholders after the online aggregator bought up the shares of the existing investors.
Delivery Hero says it sees a very attractive growth opportunity in the Latin American markets, adding the success of the PedidosYa App , with more than two million downloads, shows the enormous potential for new technologies in this region.
“We welcome this partnership between PedidosYa and Delivery Hero as a way to strengthen our position both locally and internationally,” CJ Foo, CEO of Delivery Hero Australia, said.
“Extending our global network also allows us to benefit from the valuable knowledge and experience gained from operating in many different countries. It allows to cross‐pollinate ideas, innovate and further enhance our service offering to our Australian customers,” Foo said.
Delivery Hero, which was founded in Berlin in 2010 by a group of online entrepreneurs, has gathered more than AUS $270 million to date.
It works by aggregating food retailers, such as Dominos, in one central place. Orders and payments can be placed online, and restaurants can be peer-reviewed.
Delivery Hero expanded to Australia in 2011 and today aggregates 2000 restaurants and food retailers in the market. It also has websites in 20 other countries, such as China, India, South Korea, Mexico, Sweden, and Russia.
It goes under various names in different markets, such as Pizza Portal, Hungry de, Online Pizza, Hungry House, and Superantojo.
