On-demand drone delivery service Wing has partnered with property group Mirvac to transform underutilised retail real estate into drone-delivery fulfilment hubs.

Wing will run a pilot drone delivery program from Mirvac-operated retail properties creating added value for urban customers. A trial will commence at Orion Springfield Central, located in the City of Ipswich, Queensland next year.

Simon Rossi, GM of Wing Australia, said consumer demand for drone delivery has grown rapidly in the last few years.

“On-demand drone delivery can help address the costly last-mile delivery challenge by reducing road congestion and emissions while creating new economic opportunities for retailers and communities, and providing consumers with more contactless delivery options.”

The company made more than 100,000 deliveries to customers last year and in the first quarter of this year, deliveries exceeded 120,000.

“To further accelerate our technology development, and focus on what we do best, over the next few years, we’ll be increasingly working with real estate and logistics partners to expand their delivery options, making fast drone delivery affordable and sustainable for them, and their customers,” said Rossi.

Mirvac Retail’s GM, Kelly Miller said this latest collaboration will aid in the overall growth and success of its retail partners.
