The Galeries transforms

Outgoing CEO Peter Birtles and Anthony Heraghty newly named CEO of Super Retail Group.

image002Sydney shopping centre, The Galeries, is set to welcome a slew of new retailers and undergo several renovations in the coming months.

The wave of new retailers, including Italian shoe retailer, 124, and eateries, Lotus, and Yayoi, follow the opening of Japanese lifestyle brand, Muji, in May.

“The current centre developments reinforce The Galeries’ ongoing pursuit of a unique, world class cultural offering,” Victor Gaspar, GM, Ipoh Management Services, said.

“The much anticipated launch of Muji’s Sydney flagship is the first of a number of new openings planned at The Galeries this year, all which promise to enhance the unique retail experience already offered to our customers,”Gaspar said.

To mark these transformations, the centre has launched Trance, an innovative digital art installation poised to take over the centre void on the ground floor during the month of June.

The large scale exhibition is a collaboration with Sydney’s multi disciplinary designer and artist, Thi Nguyen.

Collaborating with creative technologist Steven Bai, Nguyen has created an interactive wall of light which will illuminate the centre.

Large 10m wide by 2.5m high, LED screens feed on audience movement in order to produce a living artistic response manifested in dancing ripples of light.

This progressive application of technology not only creates a dialogue between the centre and its customers that is personal and engaging, but it reinforces The Galeries’ proposition as a place of discovery and play.

In addition to Trace, Nguyen is also exhibiting in The Galeries’ public art space, Lane Four.

The Revelation exhibition constructed of 52km of string is part of Lane Four’s 2015 program curated around the theme of “Transitions”.

The program will bring together several different artists over the next 8 months to present their unique interpretation of this concept in celebration of The Galeries’ own transition and exciting retailer activity.

Trace will be on display on the ground floor at The Galeries until end of June 2015.
