Deals site comes of age

Australian deals website, Scoopon, has celebrated its fist 12 months of business by topping a report into the online group buying sector.

In Telsyte’s report into the Australian online group buying sector, Scoopon came out on top of its Australian competitors.

Jon Beros, GM of Scoopon, attributed the site’s growth to the quality of deals on offer and strong vendor relationships.

“The average discount customers can enjoy is 67 per cent,” said Beros.

The most popular deals of the last 12 months on Scoopon included movie tickets (more than 20,000 sold in 24 hours), rendezvous hotel packages (more than 7000 sold in 24 hours), Melbourne attraction passes (more than 5000 sold in 24 hours), and swim with the dolphins packages (more than 2500 sold in 24 hours).

Almost 830,000 Scoopon deals have been sold in the past year from 1500 small businesses as vendors.

“Close to half of our vendors are repeat users of the site. We’ll also be close to registering our one millionth Scoopon sold in the next few weeks,” Beros said.
