Broadway braces for record turnout

Target-GaultierBroadway shopping centre in Sydney is expecting a record turnout of visitors  as Target launches its latest designer partnership with Jean Paul Gaultier on Thursday.

The Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection, which is the latest collaboration of the retailer’s “Designers for Target” programme, will officially launch in selected stores online on March 10 with the public getting a first glimpse of the exclusive collection at Target’s runway show at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.

The shopping centre will open from 0800 on Level 3, and the car park will open from 0600 with free parking available for the first two hours in order manage the expected crowds, Broadway announced in a news release.

Target will present more than 100 pieces of women’s, men’s, kid’s and infant clothing of the exclusive Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection, as well as a large collection of homewares.

“The ‘Designers for Target’ program has drawn huge crowds in the past and a strong following from Australian shoppers and we’re confident that consumers will fall in love with the ‘Jean Paul Gaultier for Target’ range when they see it at VAMFF and when it lands instore,” said Target Australia managing director, Stuart Machin.

Jean Paul Gaultier himself is too sick to travel Down Under to launch the new clothing line.

Instead, the French fashion icon will appear on the Melbourne catwalk via video link.

The designer was due to attend the launch of his collection fashion festival on Wednesday.

But he is unable to travel long distance due to health concerns, according to a joint statement from Gaultier and the retailer.

The designer says he’s sad he cannot attend but will still take part in the runway show at the Royal Exhibition Building, appearing via video link from his Paris studio.

“I have enjoyed working with Target Australia on the collection, a collection I love and have been heavily involved in from designing to the campaign shoot here in Paris,” the designer said on Thursday last week.
