A visionary new retail destination for northern Brisbane

Laguna-advertorial-BrisbaneA visionary new retail destination is coming together in the heart of the North Lakes CBD, one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia.

The 1.7-hectare precinct, being developed by the team behind Brisbane’s iconic James Street precinct, the George Group, in joint venture with award-winning local developer Pointcorp, is being billed as one of the city’s most highly anticipated lifestyle and entertainment destinations.

The $250million project will revolve around a central, tree-lined, pedestrian-orientated, high-street designed by acclaimed local architects, Richards and Spence, to be known as ‘Laguna Drive’. The engaging high-street will feature a carefully curated mix of cafes, small bars and restaurants as well as a diverse range of boutique retailers; from well-known brands to boutique small-format operators.

George Group Director, Patrick George said the joint venture was not only striving to create a central retail ‘heart’ for the North Lakes community to shop, dine, relax and unwind in, but also provide a level of outdoor retail amenity that the region desperately needs.

“Over the past twenty years, we’ve learnt a lot creating and sustaining the iconic James Street precinct, one of the most successful retail destinations in Australia,” said George.

“At Laguna, we have a unique ‘blank canvas’ opportunity to curate a bespoke retail environment targeted to specifically to needs of the North Lakes community,”

“And whilst we won’t necessarily be recreating James Street, we’ll in fact be offering more public amenity than James Street overall, including the resort-style pool, landscaped gardens and terraced areas and large boulevard-style foot paths, not to mention the 900 car spaces located directly beneath the precinct.”

An activated high street, 24/7

Importantly for retailers, the precinct will become a thriving destination for the surrounding community; it will feature a publicly accessible onsite aquatic centre, health and wellness facility and a large gymnasium as well as a dedicated convention and events centre that will drive foot traffic to through Laguna Drive 24/7.

“Laguna Drive will become a vibrant retail precinct that will be activated from early in the morning to late in the evening,” George added.

“You’ll be able to catch up with friends for an early morning coffee in one of Laguna’s many cafes, dine alfresco-style for Sunday lunch with the family or grab a drink with clients after work in one of the precinct’s funky small bars,”

Additionally, a 140-room boutique hotel, 900 onsite car parks and 10,500sqm of onsite commercial office space across two buildings will support ongoing retail trade throughout the working day.

A range of retail tenancy options

A wide range of tenancies are on offer at Laguna, including:

  • street-level retail tenancies along the future Laguna Drive;
  • mid-sized food and beverage tenancies;
  • café tenancies with external licence areas; and
  • a regionally significant, large-format, pool-side hospitality venue.

Tenancies will range from approximately 80sqm to 3000sqm.

With the commercial, retail and hospitality leasing campaign at Laguna now well underway, rapid take up of the available space is expected over the next few months.

Construction of the precinct is planned to commence in early 2018, with completion targeted for late 2020. For further information on Laguna visit www.lagunanorthlakes.com.au.
