Hardware retailer Bunnings is set to implement a trial four-day working week for thousands of its employees.
The agreement was reached with the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) and will benefit 40,000 employees.
Under the proposed changes, full-time employees can work 38 hours over four days or across a nine-day fortnight spread.
Meanwhile, a 10.5 per cent pay rise, along with increased penalty rates for working early on weekday mornings and evenings, and all-day Saturdays will be given to employees over the next three years.
SDA national secretary Gerard Dwyer said the agreement was a “significant breakthrough” in work-life balance for workers.
“This package is good for workers and for this major retailer alike, setting Bunnings up as a preferred employer in a tight retail market,” Dwyer told SBS.
The agreement will be submitted to the Fair Work Commission for approval after the workers’ vote.
