Woolworths pushes online grocery

jamie-websiteAustralian supermarket, Woolworths, is teaming up with celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, to push its online grocery store.

The British chef’s website has added an ‘add to trolley’ function, linked to Woolworths’ website.

The function works by letting online readers automatically collate the ingredients needed for a single Jamie Oliver recipe.

The shopper is then directed to Woolworths’ online website to automatically buy all the required ingredients.

Jamie Oliver’s website features 1000 recipes, and the Woolworths function will work across mobile, desktops, and tablets.

The partnership comes as local supermarkets continue to push the sluggish online grocery space.

Woolworths MD, Tjeerd Jegen, says 400,000 Australians use Woolworths’ online shopping, with this number growing by 50 per cent year on year.

Last year, Woolworths’ competitor, Coles, partnered with News Corp’s website, Taste.com.au, on a similar concept.

A Coles store locator tool appears on every page of Taste and recipes are matched to the retailer’s weekly specials.

Coles’ online shopping list function has been merged with 26,000 of Taste’s recipes across desktop, mobile, and social platforms.
