Quiksilver unveils new concept

Boardriders

Boardriders, a flagship store and cafe concept developed by Quiksilver, will open on February 21 at The Strand, Coolangatta in Queensland.

The 1000sqm store will be the first of its kind in Australia and in close proximity to  surfing beaches, Snapper Rocks and Kirra.

The concept includes a showcase for Quiksilver’s retail brands including Quiksilver, Roxy, and DC Shoes, as well as a cafe and licensed bar within the store’s footprint.

The store will also host weekly yoga classes with local yoga instructor, Crystal O’Rourke.

Quiksilver’s Asia Pacific president, Greg Healy, said he was delighted with the new store location.

“We have held the Quiksilver and Roxy Pros at Snapper Rocks for the past 13 years, so Coolangatta is the ideal location to open our newest Boardriders retail concept,” said Healy.

One of the exterior features of Boardriders at The Strand will be a surfboard carousel encased in glass, making a visual impact to the store’s street frontage.

“Each Boardriders store is unique to the location, whether it’s Capbreton, Paris, Moscow, Barcelona, or the Gold Coast,” said Healy.

“No two stores are the same and we are really excited to bring this concept to Australia, especially Coolangatta, where surfing is integral to the local history and culture.”

Spokesperson, Matthew Patfield, from Vinta, said bringing the international retail concept to The Strand was a coup for the recently redeveloped centre – and for Coolangatta as a destination.

“Boardriders will become a major drawcard for The Strand, for Coolangatta, and for the Gold Coast as one of the only destinations in the world to offer this concept,” said Patfield.

“As the premier lifestyle destination for the Southern Gold Coast, The Strand at Coolangatta is the perfect fit for the flagship store – complementing the unique mix of cultural, dining and retail experiences on offer.”

Boardriders will be located in the same centre as the headquarters of World Surfing League (WSL) and Surfing Australia.
