Online sales rise in September

National Australia Bank’s (NAB) online retail sales index rose 0.3 per cent in September, following a 0.1 per cent fall in August, seasonally adjusted.

In the year to September, online sales were up 10.7 per cent and 9.1 per cent in the 12 months to August.

The gains were in the media category, food, department and variety stores, as well as the fashion sector.

Online sales totalled $14.3 billion in September, which represents 6.3 per cent of traditional retail spending in Australia.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will release official retail spending figures for September on Monday.
