New life for fashion brands

ksubiAn iconic Australian fashion label which collapsed earlier this year will be back in stores this month.

In March General Pants secured rights to sell items from fashion label Ksubi, after reaching an agreement with US based Breakwater Investment Management, which had been looking for a company to manage its trade in the southern hemisphere.

In February this year, things went dramatically wrong for Ksubi, when the brand suddenly shut all its boutiques, and online store, as reported by Inside Retail PREMIUM at the time.

But things are now looking to have turned around, with General Pants CEO, Craig King, revealing to Inside Retail PREMIUM this week that Ksubi product designed in collaboration with the US and General Pants’ local design team will be arriving instore this month.

In a statement at the time of securing rights to Ksubi, King said: “This new partnership gives the brand the best chance to fulfil its potential without any of the obstacles it may have endured recently”.

Ksubi was originally launched as a denim brand in 2000 and went on to gain cult status and international exposure, with its avant garde street designs worn by the likes of Miranda Kerr and Nicole Ritchie.

It was founded by Sydney designers George Gorrow, Gareth Moody, and Dan Single.

King also confirmed General Pants has picked up the license for Insight clothing.

“It’s certainly about getting those brands back in the market, and established, and healthy again,” he said.

King says there is the prospect of standalone stores for both the brands further down the track.

“We’ll look at standalone stores into the future, but we’re not in a hurry, we want to make sure everything is sustainable and heading in the right direction before we open any standalone stores,” he said.
