Deals site mulling sale

 

brands exOnline deals website, Brands Exclusive, may be up for sale, with its owner gauging interest among potential buyers.

Australian-based company, APN News & Media, purchased Brands Exclusive in June last year for an initial 82 per cent stake of $36 million.

It has now hired corporate sales advisory group, Grant Samuel, to weight up its options, according to The Australian.

Brands Exclusive was founded by two Australian entrepreneurs in 2009 and formed part of the daily deals boom that hit Australia around 2011.

It is billed as a membership-only platform, with customers required to first sign up via email or social media before buying timed deals.

It sells manchester through to magazines and Reebok shoes, with it said to have 2.7 million members in Australia and New Zealand.

Jarosch told Inside Retail in 2011 that his “key critical success factor” for e-commerce success is tailoring platforms for specific audiences.

APN, which operates outdoor advertising and other media assets, is reportedly considering selling as it isn’t a natural e-commerce owner.

Brands Exclusive is expected to make annual revenues of around $63 million this year.
