Outdoor retailer, Mountain Designs, has been placed in liquidation in New Zealand.

The liquidation follows the closure of the Australian-owned brand’s 12 New Zealand stores.

The closures were first announced in August last year, with the company citing NZ’s slow economy and difficult trading conditions.

It operated in NZ for 14 years, and will continue to ship to New Zealand customers from its online store.

The 44 Australian stores remain unaffected by the NZ liquidation.

The outdoor market in NZ is incredibly competitive, dominated mostly by homegrown brands, Kathmandu and Macpac.
