A local Perth shopping centre is offering $2 coffees every Sunday this month, after a social media row broke out earlier this year over the city’s expensive coffee prices.

In April, a Perth cafe caused a social media storm after charging $7.25 each for a flat white and a cappuccino.

One of the state’s major shopping centres, Karrinyup Centre,  is now offering visitors $2 coffees, a fraction of the price Perth customers would generally pay, between 11am to 5pm every Sunday throughout July.

Retailers taking part in the offer include Café 34, Café Stockholm, Gloria Jeans, Michel’s Patisserie, Sumo Salad, The Coffee Club, The Daily Bagel, and Sarpino’s Pizzeria.

The $2 coffees include single shot lattes, cappuccinos, and flat whites.

The centre’s marketing manager Andrew Wilkinson told Perth Now the price of coffee had been a hot topic in Perth and he wanted to offer customers a reprieve from high prices.

“Leisure and fashion shopping and coffee on Sundays go hand in hand, particularly in winter,” Wilkinson said.

“To thank our loyal customers, we’re offering heavily discounted coffee at majority of cafes and specialty food retailers every Sunday in July.”
