Chadstone Shopping Centre is getting a new addition to its social quarter with the introduction of Playback96, a 90s-inspired social games venue.

Opening on August 27, Playback96 comes from the Funlab team behind Strike Bowling. The new concept involves physical gaming spaces designed for competition.

“There’s always room in Melbourne for a new way to have a good time with friends, and that’s exactly what Playback96 delivers,” said Blaise Witnish, CEO of Funlab.

“Playback96 brings back the best bits of the 90s. The games, the music and the great company that made the decade unforgettable in the first place.”

It is located on the shopping centre’s first level, and will be open from 9:30am to 10pm, closing at 11pm on Friday and Saturday. With space for up to 48 people an hour, Funlab says it will be the “first choice” for corporate events.

Chadstone’s social quarter was opened in 2023 following a $70 million redevelopment. The precinct, billed as an “all-seasons playground”, has space for 17 entertainment and hospitality venues.
