Starbucks Coffee Company has started accepting reusable cups for beverages pre-ordered online and at its drive-thrus at all company-operated and participating licensed stores across the US and Canada.
Starbucks is a founding member of the NextGen Consortium, which aims to accelerate sustainable and circular solutions and reduce single-use plastics in food service packaging.
The move makes Starbucks the first coffee retailer in the US to provide customers with the option to use their personal cups in mobile order for all drinks and all sizes.
In addition, it is expected to help the company fulfill its commitment to reduce waste by 50 per cent by 2030.
“Offering customers more options to use a personal cup when they visit Starbucks marks tangible progress towards the future,” said Michael Kobori, chief sustainability officer at Starbucks.
The use of personal cups is limited to three orders per day.
