Woman offers toddler on eBay

A woman who offered a two-year-old relative for sale on eBay says she did it “to see how eBay works”, news reports say.

Authorities said the western Michigan woman offered the toddler for sale on eBay and accepted a man’s tongue-in-cheek bid.

Lieutenant Mark Bennett said police received calls about the internet posting on Monday from as far away as California.

Bennett said one bidder who thought it was a hoax called police when the bid was accepted and helped lead them to the woman.

Nineteen-year-old Autumn Braden told The Grand Rapids Press she did it to “see how eBay worked” and it “wasn’t meant to be taken seriously”.

The Holland Sentinel said police located the woman in Ottawa County’s Allendale Township, about 25 kilometres west of Grand Rapids.

The woman had been caring for the child, but the girl was now in her mother’s custody.
