Winning acquires Victorian competitor

winning-appliances-kingston-showroomWinning Appliances has acquired Michael’s Appliance Centre; a consumer-facing specialist supplier of kitchen and laundry appliances based in Brighton, Victoria.

As a result of the acquisition, Winning Appliances sees its total offerings include 14 showrooms throughout New South Wales, ACT, Queensland, Western Australia and Victoria.

“Winning Appliances and Michael’s shares many similarities; we are both proud Australian family businesses and specialists in supplying the world’s best kitchen and laundry brands, and providing exceptional customer service,” said John Winning, CEO of the Winning Group.

“We will continue to run the store under the Michael’s banner in the interim, as a commercial and retail showroom, and we look forward to working with all of the team.

“Michael’s is a well respected 40 year old business and we see it as a privilege to continue Michael Wood’s legacy and have him remain a part of the Winning Appliances business,” said Winning.

Michael’s Appliance Centre owner, Michael Wood, will retire from running day-to-day operations and take on a Brand Ambassador role for Winning Appliances, though the remainder of the management and sales teams will retain their roles.

Michael Wood said he is proud to be joining the team at Winning Appliances.

“I am delighted to have Michael’s Appliance Centre associated with a great family business.

“I’m confident that the Michael’s team will continue to offer the world’s best brands and customer service and I look forward to my role as Brand Ambassador.”

Winning continues WA expansion

The acquisition comes less than a week after Winning announced a new commercial head office and showroom in Perth, one small piece of a larger effort to move into the Western Australia market.

“Our continued investment in the WA market will ensure that the local building industry will continue to benefit from our unrivalled experience, local knowledge and our offering of the world’s best appliance brands,” said John Winning.

The western expansion was buoyed by the appointment of a new WA management team; general manager Damien Reeve and sales manager of project builders Kevin Saxon.

“We will also be opening a new 14,000 sqm, purpose built distribution centre in Kewdale later this year, following strong online and offline growth,” Winning told Inside Retail, noting the company’s 28 per cent sales growth for the month of May.

“We are always open to new opportunities, so watch this space.”
