Strong feedback on sales

Sale Shopping Bags Shows ReductionsShops across the country continue to be packed out after an extraordinarily busy Boxing Day that’s tipped to have generated more than $2 billion in sales.

Australian Retail Association executive director Russell Zimmerman says retailers are telling him their sales were better than expected on Boxing Day, with shoppers splurging on luxury brand clothing and accessories as well as home appliances.

“Every retailer I have spoken to have said they have done really well and I think we’ll probably exceed the $2 billion that we forecast on Boxing Day,” he told AAP.

He said the post-Christmas shopping was still in full swing on Friday.

“Every centre I have been to today has been chock a block full of people,” he said.

“I think the $16.1 billion (in sales) is more than achievable from Boxing Day to January 15.”

Official post-Christmas sales figures will be released in February.
