Coles Liquor CEO Darren Blackhurst resigns to return to the UK

Darren Blackhurst, CEO at Coles Liquor, has decided to step down from his role and leave the company to return to the UK with his wife, Sam, to be with their children and elderly parents.

According to a company announcement, during Blackhurst’s tenure, he led the reset of Coles Liquor’s strategy, creating a more accessible and locally relevant specialist drinks retailer. He also played a key role in transforming Liquorland to its new “engaging and compelling” black-and-white format.

Coles Group CEO Steven Cain praised Blackhurst’s contribution to the company’s liquor business, which has delivered sales growth of more than 15 per cent since January 2020, boosting the sales of exclusive and local brands and an expanding omnichannel presence.

Cain also credited Blackhurst with building capability and leadership within all levels of the business.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of the Coles team and a privilege to lead the Coles Liquor business,” said Blackhurst. “I hope the team is immensely proud of what they have delivered and achieved together.”

The Coles Liquor team thanked Blackhurst for his leadership and contribution to the company, wishing him all the best in his future endeavours.

The company has yet to name his successor.
