Majors target coffee market

Updated

coffeeWoolworths is continuing to build its presence in the coffee market, opening two new instore coffee kiosks in Victoria.

The kiosks, opened at  Moonee Ponds and Ashwood in Victoria, now brings the supermarket’s total number of instore coffee counters to eight.

Woolworths launched its first coffee kiosk last October, followed by Coles in December. The move was part of Coles’ relaunched Southland concept store in Victoria, that also saw the introduction of iPad screens for customers to browse specials, Mix Apparel virtual change rooms, as well as an instore kitchen and patisserie.

Woolworths’ new categories manager Clair Stevenson told News Corp the test sites, along with one in Sydney, were established after positive market research.

“We know that Australians are increasingly time poor. We are responding by giving them convenient, quality coffee when they shop,” Stevenson said.

More Woolworths kiosks are expected to roll out, while Coles  has several coffee counters in the pipeline for a handful of future stores.
