The dust is settling on Australian retail following a rocky few years, according to respondents of this year’s Australian Retail Outlook. “Signs of retail recovery are emerging and significant rationalisation has already occurred,” says one respondent. That doesn’t mean everybody is feeling positive, with worries about international entrants, discounting and the supermarket monopoly prevalent. “Discounting is the scourge of Australian retail. If international ent
rants can avoid it, as they do overseas, they will present a real threat,” said another retailer.
Inside Retail’s The Australian Retail Outlook 2014 surveys more than 500 retailers on the state of the local market.
The annual publication additionally features indepth interviews with leading Australian CEOs about the year ahead.
This year’s interviewees include Myer’s Bernie Brookes, Oroton Group’s Mark Newman, and Bill Clarkson from Lorna Jane.
Stockland, Amblique and Roy Morgan are among those which have authored trend forecasts on omni-channel, bricks and mortar, and centre retail.
The Australian Retail Outlook 2014 is available for digital download early next week and is released as a print magazine from March 28.
