Australian online pureplay, Bookworld, is expecting its biggest sales for Christmas to date. Bookworld operates out of a 25,000sqm warehouse, which CEO, James Webber, says is the biggest book warehouse in Australia, housing more than 20 million titles. To keep ahead of the e-book market, Bookworld partners with Toronto-based Kobo, the third largest e-book retailer in the world. To cater for the increased demand this Christmas, Bookworld has purchased its largest volume of stock to date, a
and Webber says the warehouse is seeing Christmas orders significantly picking up.
Bookworld was established in 2012 following the purchase of the internet sales arm of collapsed the Borders and Angus & Robertson chains.
In the book industry most growth is driven by online retailers, and with consumer confidence levels at a three year low, shoppers are more likely to turn to the internet for the best possible deal.
To capture this audience, Bookworld offers a price beating guarantee with Amazon.
Shoppers who can find an identical book on Amazon, which is priced at less on that day including shipping, and other fees, can claim a 10 per cent discount through Bookworld.
“Our main offer on Bookworld is a very competitive price, a very large selection of books sent to you in two or three days free of charge, and we’re a local, Australian online pureplay.
“Our Christmas delivery guarantee promises to get the order to the customer on time or we will provide them with a full refund. The speed and reliability of this service is something that Amazon and other overseas competitors can’t compete with,” says Webber.
Bookworld only ships within Australia, but Webber told Inside Retail PREMIUM, the brand is always looking at ways to grow, and international shipping “is one of those things on our list”.
