mple. If you could swap jobs with anyone in the world, who would it be?  Struggling to narrow this one down, so can I have the luxury of picking two? Each relates to either my creative side or my more pragmatic side:  1. Working on set with filmmaker Chloe Zhao: I would love to be part of the process of using storytelling as a way to help us understand each other and our collective humanity.  2. Working in education policy: I have always been very cognisant of the education opportunities that I had growing up and how my education opened doors for me that otherwise would not have opened.  Who are your business heroes and why?  I have the utmost respect and admiration for every person running a business or starting a business. It’s been a very challenging environment for everyone over the past few years and there are still moments where we are taken to the edge of our abilities. Whilst some businesses might have a bigger platform to leverage than others, the hard work and sheer determination that goes on behind the scenes is the same, irrespective of size or scale. We just haven’t had the opportunity to read about it! Having said that, Nyx founder Toni Ko’s business journey, work ethic and authenticity are hugely inspirational to me.   What did you want to be when you were a kid?  I always wanted to start a business. Growing up I was raised by my mum, auntie and my maternal grandma and grandpa. My mum worked as a consultant overseas and I remember us being around the dinner table, whenever she was home, and I would run my latest ideas past her!  If you could look inside the bag of any entrepreneur, who would it be and why? Net-a-Porter co-founder Natalie Massenet is an absolute pioneer in our industry and I would love to get a snapshot of her day and how she manages her time. Also, as a first generation Asian Australian, I find myself navigating my identity and place in the world and blogger and author Joanne Lee Molinaro’s way of using food to share stories about identity and her cultural experience really resonates with me. So I would peek inside Joanne’s bag, too.  What is one skill that you wish you could master?  I’m constantly planning for the future (especially for TDE), so something that I would love to master – and on a personal level, it is what I have really been focusing on this year – is to be more present and to stay in the moment.  If you could change anything about the retail industry tomorrow, what would it be?  No industry is perfect, there is always more that we can do both individually and collectively. I honestly just want to celebrate us as an industry for navigating what has been an extremely unpredictable period, as well as we all have.
