woolworthsWoolworths is trialling Pie Face products in its supermarkets as the collapsed pie chain looks to partner with the supermarket giant in a bid to boost sales and avoid receivership.

According to Fairfax, Pie Face is in discussion talks with the supermarket chain, which has been trialling its products over the past few weeks in 15 Woolworths stores.

Pie Face and Woolworths are expected to make a decision early next year whether to extend the rollout.

Last week, administrator Jirsch Sutherland confirmed to Inside Retail it will close 20 Pie Face stores, 18 company-owned and two franchised stores.

The stores are spread across Australia, with eight in NSW, five in Victoria, three in Queensland,, and one in Western Australia, in addition to two franchised stores. As a result of the closures around 130 part time staff as expected to go.

Twelve company-owned Pie Face stores are expected to continue to trade as normal, and 39 franchises are also continuing to operate.

The news of the closures came just one week after it was placed in voluntary administration.
