Two bombs target Thai luxury mall

SiamParagonTwo bombs have detonated at a high end luxury shopping mall in Bangkok, officials say.

The homemade explosive devices were planted behind a power transformer at the entrance to Siam Paragon Shopping Mall in downtown Bangkok and exploded late on Sunday.

Local television footage showed minor damage to a walkway and a small retail store.

No casualties have been reported.

Police initially said that the incident was the result of a transformer explosion, however police general, Prawut Thawornsiri, later told reporters that the explosions were the result of two pipe bombs.

Bangkok has been under martial law since the army took power in a coup in May and political gatherings have been banned as a result.

The military have detained dissidents and cracked down harshly on dissent through military courts and arbitrary arrests.
