The Galeries ‘wrap up’ Christmas

Galeries0L6A4539The Galeries in Sydney’s CBD will host a suspended sculptural installation as part of its Christmas festivities with other initiatives launched including a curated online gift finder.

Wire sculptures measuring up to six-metres long will be gift wrapped, leaving the outline of a sneaker, beer bottle and pair of headphones. The artwork will extend to the ground floor’s pop-up lounge reaching coloured seating and props wrapped to match the installation.

As part of the shopping centre’s Lane Four project, which every two months enables new artists to showcase their endeavours, the video work ‘Paper Scrunch’ by Tully Arnot will be installed across five large screens to compliment Buff Diss’ tape mural.

“The overall theme is to deconstruct the process of the boxing. I want to play on the lines and forms we create in the process of boxing and gift wrapping and explode them into a 2D sculpture of sorts,” said Diss.

An online gift finder featuring a curated list of products from over 300 retailers has also been launched as part of the centre’s Christmas initiatives, with a bespoke tag marking selected products from the gift finder in store to make treasures identifiable for shoppers with time constraints. Muji, Incu, 124 Shoes and Books Kinokuniya will offer personalised gifts, as ‘Wrapped’ takes place between December 1 and December 28.
