Surfwear brands caught in a rip

Australian surfwear retailers are battling against the tide, caught in a rip, and (depending on whose forecast you listen to) are even very close to drowning.

In this week’s edition of Inside Retail’s digital weeky, we take a look at the maligned sector, and see how these brands are searching the horizon for a sunnier patch of sky.

We also have an exclusive story about a retailer in the storage space that’s been placed in administration, as well as analysis of strategies being implemented by two big Australian chains, Target and Myer, as they both face tough consumer sentiment.

In other news, a jewellery chain is headed for a major rebrand, a cult Japanese fashion icon has opened its first store in Australia, and a Melbourne-based adult store chain is welcoming in eXXXciting times as it tries to target more female shoppers.

Our managing editor, Carla Bridge, has another diary entry from her second week sightseeing the world’s best retail on The Westfield World Retail Study Tour.

Regular columnist, Jon Bird, who is also on the 2013 tour, has some further insight on the global trend of “clicks and mortar”.
