Snowgum collapses

snowgumAustralian Adventurewear retailer, Snowgum, has been placed in voluntary administration.

Glenn Franklin, Petr Vrsecky, and Jason Stone of Lawlor Draper Dillon in Melbourne have been appointed as administrators of the 87 year old outdoor apparel chain.

According to Fairfax Media, Snowgum, which is privately owned, was locked in a rent dispute over $15,245 for rent over its Chapel st store, allegedly owing the money to its landlord. Other reports indicate that the amount of debt to unsecured creditors is estimated to be between $2.2 to $2.3 million.

The news comes following the collapse of several well known Australian retailers over the past 12 months, including Kirrily Johnston and Lisa Ho.

Earlier this month, “jeans queen” Bettina Liano was also placed in administration, just two years after being rescued by Apparel Group.

The designer, who closed her Chapel St flagship in February, cited high rents as one of the reasons for the brand’s initial troubles in an interview with Inside Retail in March.

Established in 1926, Snowgum has around 20 retail stores across Victoria, Tasmania, NSW, Queensland, and ACT.
