Online retailers can expect a sales increase of between 15 per cent and 20 per cent month on month heading into sales season, according to a new study by global e-commerce and multi-channel consultancy, Practicology.

Last year, Practicology surveyed more than 30 Australian retail brands and more than 10 million user sessions over a month and found online shopping sales increased by 22.78 per cent from May to June, a trend likely to be mirrored as the industry launches into mid year clearance sales this month.

In order for retailers to be prepared for this surge in consumption, Practicology stress the importance of brands organising digital platforms for the increasing number of online shoppers heading into peak sales periods.

The firm suggests it is essential for retailers to have a well optimised user experience which clearly identifies sale items to ensure a simple and transparent transactional process.

Statistics have been drawn from Practicology’s ongoing benchmark study on the state of online retail over the last six months, Australian Online Stats: Metrics that Matter.
